Our Cpanel environment will be phased out some time after November 30, 2008. (This gives you about 22 months from the date that this issue is being first documented here, on January 22, 2007.) This phase-out was announced in the a2i.announce newsgroup on January 13, 2007.
Customers are encouraged to switch to our
Directadmin Environment.
Reasons for phasing out Cpanel are as follows.
Neither the underlying operating system on which Cpanel runs at rahul.net (RedHat Linux 7.2), nor Cpanel itself as it is in use here, are being updated any more. Cpanel cannot be updated because the vendor no longer provides Cpanel updates suitable for RedHat Linux 7.2. The operating system cannot be upgraded to a newer release without seriously disrupting service to all customers' Cpanel accounts. Thus, since no graceful upgrade path is available, we will simply ask all customers to migrate (eventually) to the DirectAdmin environment.
In the unlikely event that some very serious security problem is
identified in the Cpanel environment, we may have to ask you to migrate
away from Cpanel sooner. More likely, however, we will deal with any
security issues by adding more stringent firewalling to keep intruders
out, thus allowing you to remain in the Cpanel environment until
November 30, 2008.
